Les ShandLes is a 27 year old Motor Mechanic. He rode his first bike at 4 years old and has never been without one since! In 1998 he made the decision to try racing and was immediately hooked. In his first season he won several novice trophies which encouraged him to pursue his growing ambition to become a professional motorcycle racer. In 1999 he continued his improvement attaining 5th in the Scottish and Regal Championships and winning the 600 and 1300cc East Fortune Championships following in the footsteps of great riders such as Niall McKenzie. Two Thousand saw Les with two newer bikes and racing on the English circuit in addition to the Scottish scene, he retained the East Fortune Championship and improved to 4th in the Scottish. For 2001 Les built his own race bike and obtained substantial support from businesses to allow him to challenge for the Scottish Championship. He improved his technique by racing at higher levels on the English circuits and it paid off with him winning the Scottish and Regal Championships in spectacular style, in the process he broke the 100mph lap record twice at East Fortune, a record which had stood for many years. Winning the Scottish Championship opened doors and raised his profile. The 2002 season saw Les racing for his first independent team in the form of M&S Motorcycles of Newcastle and also receiving invaluable help and advice from top established riders. Les was now racing in the British Championship and he achieved his realistic aim of finishing in the top ten of some of the races. For 2003 Les is again with the same team and running new bikes, the aim for this year is to finish in the top ten again but also to get a podium finish.
